In a Nutshell
MyOwnRadar is a powerful computer software application that processes
raw Doppler weather radar data into a wide variety of easy-to-understand,
information-rich and potentially life-saving images for viewing
on the World Wide Web or on a local IntraNet. Everything from snow
flurries and drizzle to large hail and tornados can be detected,
located, and displayed in real-time.
Technical Requirements
MyOwnRadar operates on a Pentium-class computer running
Windows 2003, XP, or VISTA with at least 512 MB of memory. The computer requires
a broadband Internet connection in order for MyOwnRadar's built-in
ftp engine to upload its images to a website. MyOwnRadar can also
download its image files to a local hard drive for viewing by multiple
users connected to an internal computer network such as can be found
at local Emergency Management Offices or at Public Schools.
Interactivity
Any standard web browser can be used to view the images, and they
can be displayed in an interactive or stand-alone format. For interactivity
a small Java applet or FLASH swf file is required that resides on the client's web
server (or a shared hard drive for an Intranet). No additional plugin
is required for the stand-alone imagery.
With the Java applet or FLASH file, the various radar images can be overlaid onto
high resolution topographic background maps either one at a time,
or multiple overlays can be viewed at the same time. Geographical
information such as state and county lines, highways and their labels,
county names, regional landmarks, etc,. can be toggled on and off
in order to achieve a specific "look" to the radar display.
Zooming and panning are also possible.
Another advantage to using the applet or swf file is that the radar images are
automatically updated in the background without the need to have
the entire web page refreshed. The end user can also force the applet
to refresh all the images with a click of a button to ensure the
latest information is always being displayed.
The stand-alone images are, by definition, less interactive, but
they are extremely useful to provide a quick overview of the precipitation
patterns across a given area. They can be used as full screen, high
resolution images, but they also lend themselves for use as thumbnail
navigation icons or for mobile phone applications.
Customization
Just abouty every aspect of MyOwnRadar can be customized in order
to generate images to exact client specifications including the
size of the viewing window, color scheme, font selection, graphic
icons and logos and choice of radar products.
MyOwnRadar gives your web visitors or Intranet users the ability
to control the output on the radar screen and to take part in
a highly engaging interactive experience that serves a very real
and practical purpose: scanning the skies 24/7 in order to see
what kind of weather conditions are approaching and whether the
situation calls for taking appropriate action should threatening
weather be heading their way. |
